Countries like France, Cuba, Philipines and India, anyone can go to medical school. Not everyone can pass the exams and get a medical degree. So it undercuts the exclusivity and financial elitism of the US. If you look at healthcare statistics, the highly reimbursed physicians aren’t necessarily the ones providing the best care. It’s a resource allocation system which at this time is utterly corrupted. This is why we import doctors from France, Philipines, Cuba and India. Imagine!

It’s not the Insurance Companies and it’s not the Doctors. Think of healthcare as a supply and demand system. when the demand goes down (…people stop going to the Hospital for every little sniffle) the cost of healthcare goes down, premiums go down and we all win. Here’s a novel idea - take better care of yourself and you won’t have to worry about health care cost as much. Personally, I’d much rather have a Doctor driving a Mercedes than a mule!

“I was told by my HMO it was 6 months to get an elective procedure on my knee…”

I’d like everyone to be aware that she’s complaining about waiting 6 months for an ELECTIVE surgery.

scorpionkings; Some governments here in Canada have tried suggesting we go to a private system , but we’re not having any of it. We Canadians like our universal healthcare system and will not go private. And though it’s true that some little services have changed, I really haven’t noticed anything that diffent in our wait times and accessibility to specialists etc. Obviously, there’s always room for improvement :) Peace..

HoracioAnell; You’ve made one of the most important and fundamental observations here about how the huge and greedy pharmaceutical companies want to keep ppl sick. Just notice all the new commercials out there for ‘illnesses’ that we never heard of before. The Huge Pharmaceutical companies will not rest until everyone is on some kind of medication for something!
And of course, the insurance companies need to show a profit–that’s their bottom line…so sick!!

I’m an ER nurse. I wouldn’t back Moore if he were the last Sebastian on God’s green Earth! I don’t understand the hype about him other than this is a political move to get him, and those certain people running for office, in power. I can’t stand the idiot.

I’m for national health care, BUT THE CLINTONS’ PLAN - KEEPING *ALL* THE PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPANIES INVOLVED - WOULD HAVE BEEN A HUGE BUREAUCRATIC *DISASTER* - AND PEOPLE COULD *STILL* HAVE BEEN DENIED PAYMENT FOR INDIVIDUAL INSTANCES!

ONE *GOOD* UNIVERSAL SINGLE PAYER PUBLIC NATIONAL HEALTH CARE PLAN FOR *ALL* CITIZENS IS THE ONLY WAY TO BEGIN.

And then we use what works best in other universal national health care countries and skip any shortcomings.

The system is set up for all departments of it to scam people by billing them and say ing they owe this much more after they were already paid. Threats that you still owe for tests or fees not covered and no time for dispute before they send it to a collection agency .

Our own little band of bandits and neo liberal nutcases ought to take a serious look at this one because they obviously want to Americanize medical care in the largest country in Scandinavia. How they ever got into power escapes me. Swedes are obviously morons and cannot appreciate what they have since they’ve never been abroad in any real sense and so they have nothing to compare it to.

Canada didn’t have long wait times until recently. It is government that slashed funding for health care in Canada. I suspect the health funding cuts in Canada is an agenda to introduce 2 tier health care : one you get for free and wait for, and another private system for the wealthy. There is no reason for it. We could have short waits times if funding was restored.

Reports indicate that no single country has all the best health care outcomes. To start saying who is better at this or who waits how long for that is missing the point: healthcare works best when everybody is a part of one system. Imagine if fire protection was based on who had what insurance, and cause of fire had to be assessed before fire is extinguished. We’d say it was ludicrous. That’s what Moore is saying about competing insurance for health care.

A lot of supporters of universal healthcare have rather simple-minded analyses. But I still agree with them. According to an article on wikipedia about “Healthcare”, Afghanistan and Iraq have universal healthcare that is funded by the U.S. Very ironic. The federal government pays for the universal coverage for two other countries but not its own.
