~ Jamie ~ asked:
I am interviewing with two seperate companies, Company A and Company B. I received an offer from Company B; however, my true interest lies with Company A. I originally interviewed with A back in July for a seperate position. It was between me and one other person; however, ultimately they were concerned that I may be overqualified for the position. However, the recruiter thought highly of me and passed on my info to the recruiter for this position. When Company B called today, they said the offer was contingent on my background check. At least this will buy me a few extra days, while they are wrapping up the paperwork. Should I mention to Company A that I have received an offer, but express my desire for working with Company A? The recruiter did ask me prior to the interview if I was actively interviewing and who with and for what positions. If I do mention, how should the conversation go? What should I say and how should I say it????
In addition, the recruiter for Company A asked if I could start as soon as Monday. I said yes. However, the Manager of the Department said she would have a decision next week. This may give me a reason to call her other than the other offer, for clarification. ANY IDEAS???? I really, really, really want the job at Company A!
I haven’t received an ofer from Company A at all yet. I also don’t want them to feel I am manipulating them into a decision. I’ll have to be tactful but am not sure how the conversation should go? Any tips?
